TUESDAY MEETINGS
Feel free to come along to a meeting. They are held at the Quaker Meeting House, near the Sheffield Cathedral and the Blue Moon vegetarian cafe, 7.30 to 9.30pm on Tuesdays.
PLEASE NOTE WE WILL NOT BE MEETING DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST, AS QUAKER MEETING HOUSE IS CLOSED DURING THAT MONTH. WE WILL RESUME OUR MEETINGS ON TUESDAY, 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2010.
Beginners night: The first Tuesday of each month is Beginners Night in which the basics of zazen meditation are taught and newcomers are invited to ask questions about the practice. It is also an opportunity for regulars and newcomers to get to know each other.
In the following weeks we have our regular schedule in which we usually do zazen sitting meditation, kinhin walking meditation, chanting sutras, tea and discussion of a Buddhist text.
Currently we are looking at
- Foundational teachings of the Buddha
- The work of Shunryu Suzuki
- Further work on zen in daily life including further consideration of the work of the lay zen teacher, Ken Jones.
On the fourth Tuesday of each month, instead of the discussion, we practice mindful speaking and listening in a circle where people are invited to say whatever comes up for them while other participants listen respectfully.
We ask participants to make a small donation for the meetings sufficient to cover our costs.
